It’s a long story…

Actually, the basic idea behind Onspot is century old. It is a long story how this idea came to improve safety and productivity not only for drivers, but also for society.

Onspot milestones

1915

In August of 1915 patent #1,150,148 was granted to Mr. W.H. Putnum of New York for his new and unique anti-skid device. Mr. Putnum never got the mission accomplished. 

1977

In the winter of 1977 Mr. Göran Törnebäck, of Linköping, Sweden, brought Putnum's idea to fruition by mounting an Automatic Tire Chains system system onto a local milk delivery truck.

1978

Swedish inventor Göran Törnebäck brings his original Automatic Tire Chain to North America following his European success with the product. 

 

1988

Onspot of North America starts importing Onspot to North America.

1991

Onspot AB is acquired by VBG Group. Production is moved to Vänersborg, Sweden.

1992

Onspot of North America starts manufacturing. 

1993

According to a research report compiled by Linköping Institute of Technology Sweden, and commissioned by Swedish insurance company Hansa Trafik, Onspot reduces accident frequency for distribution vehicles by approx. 50%.

2000

New Onspot Model 012. Double-acting cylinder, 33% lighter, maintenance free. 

2003

New sales subsidiary established – Onspot France.

2014

New Onspot Model 016. 29% lighter, integrated cylinder, shorter.

2015

Onspot of North America is acquired by VBG Group.
